Hannah and Andrew’s wedding weekend in Maui, Hawaii was pure magic — everything a documentary wedding photographer dreams of capturing.
Their journey with me started early in 2025, when I received their inquiry while photographing a winter wedding in Minnesota. The words “Maui, Hawaii” in the location box made me gasp. I travel to the islands regularly, but this was my first time being invited to photograph a wedding in Maui — a dream come true.
After a few conversations, I could tell Hannah and Andrew were the perfect fit. Booking couples is a bit like dating — it’s all about connection, communication, and shared vision. From the start, I knew their wedding would be something special.
In the weeks leading up to their day, I spent time visiting my family on the Big Island and exploring Maui with my husband. The night before the wedding, I joined the couple for their rehearsal dinner and took portraits at Baldwin Beach — a windy stretch of coast that gave us golden light and those raw, authentic moments I love to photograph.
Hannah and Andrew have such a calm, grounded presence together; their love radiates in every frame. On the wedding morning, emotions ran high as they prepared for the sacredness of the day. They chose to share a quiet first touch and take communion together before walking down the aisle — an intimate and heartfelt moment that set the tone for everything that followed.
As the ceremony began, the trade winds picked up, the palm fronds danced wildly, and just after they said “I do,” a rainbow appeared over the yard — a beautiful reminder of God’s covenant. I didn’t even notice it until I was editing later, a testament to how photography preserves the moments we might otherwise miss.
For their Maui wedding portraits, we ventured to a rugged cliffside, the wind swirling around them while the sunset turned the sky to gold. They didn’t mind the weather one bit — they were too caught up in the joy of finally being married.
That evening, the celebration continued beneath a clear tent filled with laughter, tears, and dancing under the starry Maui sky. They ended the night with a cheerful send-off in their bright red Jeep — the perfect finale to an unforgettable day.
Capturing Hannah and Andrew’s Maui wedding reminded me exactly why I love being a destination wedding photographer in Hawaii. The combination of emotion, beauty, and connection is unlike anywhere else — and I can’t wait to return to the islands to tell more love stories like theirs.
