When Sadie from SmokinHorseMedia first reached out to me about Camilla and David’s wedding, I was beyond excited. Collaborating with Sadie is always a yes for me—but what made this opportunity even more special was that the couple specifically requested I shoot their wedding entirely on film. As a film wedding photographer, this was a dream come true. I’d been eager to fully lean into analog photography for a wedding, and what better backdrop than San Antonio?
The wedding weekend kicked off with a scenic drive into the city—where I got to be the “passenger princess”—and a stop at The Maverick, a charming local restaurant where the welcome party was being held. From the moment I met Camilla and David in person, I knew this was going to be a seamless and heartfelt experience. It’s always a gift to work with a couple who truly values your craft and trusts your creative process.
I challenged myself to shoot the welcome party in low light without using flash, embracing the natural ambiance of the evening. There’s something incredibly genuine about capturing moments as they unfold—especially on film. The night was full of laughter, love, and anticipation for the celebration ahead.
The next day—the wedding day—was as beautiful as it was windy. Sadie and I started the morning at the Hotel Havana, a vintage gem in San Antonio with a moody, laid-back vibe and the perfect penthouse suite for getting ready. It had everything I love as a wedding film photographer: rich textures, natural light, and an effortlessly cool atmosphere that translated beautifully on film.
After a wind-swept walk to the Southwest School of Art, where the ceremony and reception were held, we started capturing the details—guests arriving in style, wind-blown florals, and Camilla’s veil dancing in the breeze. Despite the gusts, Camilla and David handled everything with such grace and joy. These little imperfections are what make weddings unforgettable.
Shooting the entire day on film helped me slow down and focus on the moments that really matter. Film naturally lends itself to a documentary-style approach, and that’s exactly what this day called for. Sadie led the day with intention, allowing me to quietly observe and capture scenes as they unfolded with honesty and heart.
The reception took place in a stunning indoor space with stone, church-like architecture and a castle-esque glow. It was romantic, elevated, and uniquely reflective of Camilla and David’s style—refined yet deeply personal.
This wedding was my first time shooting 100% on film, and it could not have been a better experience. I walked away with some of my favorite images to date and a renewed appreciation for the power of slowing down and capturing connection.
Huge thanks to Sadie for inviting me to be part of this unforgettable celebration, and to Camilla and David for trusting me with your story. Your San Antonio wedding was magic on every level. And as always Negative Lab for handing my film with great care.
